ABOUT ME

Julianne Chin
Scuba Diving Instructor | Aspiring Travel Writer
Born in Hong Kong, raised around the world.
Growing up in a city where people are taught to follow 'the general path of life', I always felt out of place. Inspired by 如果流浪是一種練習 by Siu Ming Ho, I embarked on my first solo backpacking journey to Sabah and Brunei Darussalam in 2019, at the age of 17.
In the wake of COVID, I planned my second solo trip to obtain my professional diver’s certification. That journey changed everything, I ended up working as a dive professional and never returned to my regular city life. Since then, my two worlds— diving and traveling— have intertwined. Destiny has taken me to 29 countries, of which I’ve lived in seven. When I’m not underwater teaching my greatest passion, I’m exploring the world with a backpack, perhaps sitting in a random local restaurant and falling in love with new cuisines.
Returning to my almost-forgotten passion for writing about people and cultures from my university days, My Name is Blue is here to share one-of-a-kind travel stories— destinations off the beaten track and unique experiences you won’t read anywhere else. Dive into these crazy journeys which I made it out alive. Don’t follow me… unless I’m your dive guide, because I am lost too!
